Oxnard Family Circle's Farm Field Trip Shows That Animals Have A "Healing Touch"

One of the many benefits of the Adult Day Program at Oxnard Family Circle is that participants have oppportunities to go on outings to many different and exciting locations. Recently a social worker at our facility named Joy Williams took participants to McGraph Family Farm in Camarillo. Participants were able to feed rabbits, goats, sheep, and a baby calf. They also saw geese and ducks, and enjoyed being outside in the sunshine and fresh air with the animals.

"Being outside with animals such as these is an exciting experience for most adult day program participants. I believe animals have a 'healing touch' that is hard to find elsewhere," - Joy Williams, Social Worker at Oxnard Family Circle ADHC. The group also got to visit the local farmer's market where participants were able to purchase goods, and Joy bought strawberries for everyone to share.

Outings such as the farm field trip, group trips to restaurants, the beach, or parks allows members of Oxnard Family Circle to go places they normally wouldn't be able to attend and give them an exhilerating and fun experience. The ability to attend outings also contributes to developing and maintaining social skills and relationships not only within our center, but outside the center as well.

Senior Care and Post-Acute Rehab Under One Roof

Oxnard Family Circle is not only a great facility for senior care, but also offers post-acute rehab services for seniors and disabled adults.

In an effort to reduce complications and re-hospitalization for patients discharged from hospitals, Oxnard Family Circle ADHC offers a unique medical model whole-day rehabilitation program inclusive of all the services a patient would need upon discharge. Payers can save up to 80% of post-acute rehabilitation costs and decrease re-hospitalization for patients anywhere from 28% to 75% by participating in such programs, which is designed specifically for patients who require skilled quality care during a day (patients go home for nights and weekends). Our facility can completely or partially replace not cost-effective conventional home health agencies and SNFs, if we can transport a patient to us and provide the following individualized services under one roof that meet the medical needs of post-acute patients:

Oxnard Family Circle Adult Day Health Care Program is pleased to announce a new addition to our physical/occupational therapy department: the MOTOmed Movement Therapy System, which is of particular value for multiple sclerosis, stroke, paraplegia, tetraplegia, spasticity, Parkinson's
disease and other neurological and geriatric diseases as well as any kind of mobility
impairments.
The MOTOmed is not only a superior stationary bicycle for the legs, but for the arms as well. The MOTOmed also provides a screen with feedback about performance (how fast you are pedaling, which leg/arm is being used more) and gearing options to allow you to alter levels of difficulty. The foot and hand pedals can be rotated in either direction to provide complete range of motion.

At Oxnard Family Circle Adult Day Health Care Center there is a variety of participants, some of which who have had a stroke, multiple sclerosis, or spinal cord injuries, and many other neurological disorders. There are many factors, including aging, which may contribute to your loved one's difficulty walking, using a wheelchair, or being confined to bed.  Neurological and neuromuscular disease can cause:

- muscle loss (atrophy)
- paralysis or physical weakness

There are three types of therapy to choose from:
Passive: The MOTOmed moves you. Passive motion without muscle strength is essential
to prevent your joints from stiffening. It helps to loosen up the muscles and to reduce
spasticity. Passive training improves the blood circulation and therefore the oxygen and
nutrition supply of the muscles. This provides movement for your daily well-being.
Motor-Assisted: The MOTOmed supports you. The user trains with only little
muscle strength and the MOTOmed motor supports this active impulse by the
ServoCycling feature. This promotes strength and endurance even with minimal muscle
strength. Residual strength that is either blocked by spasticity or insufficient for fully
active movement can be rediscovered and strengthened. This provides movement for more energy
and motivation.
Active-Resistive: Cycle by yourself. The user trains actively against finely adjustable
resistance levels, from very easy to quite difficult. Whenever the muscles fatigue, he
can relax and the motor will take over again and continue to move the legs or arms
in passive motion. This helps to improve the blood circulation as well as the oxygen
and nutrition supply, so that active training can be continued after a short break.
Active training with short breaks of passive training has a positive influence on
the total training time and the general therapy progress. This provides movement for your
physical strength.
